Noirmoutier Island

Situated off the north-western Vendee coast, Noirmoutier is a beautiful island, linked to the mainland by a causeway, passable only at low tide and by a toll-free bridge.
The island is 25 kilometres long and has a varied landscape: to the west lie the best fine sand beaches and dune areas; to the north, beyond the plains where the famous Bonotte potatoes are grown, lies the fishing port of L'Herbaudière; to the east near the old village of Vieil and along the Bois de la Chaize up to the entrance to the old port of Noirmoutier you'll find more wooded areas and secluded beaches.
Proud of the island's unique agricultural and sea produce (potatoes, oysters and mussels), Noirmoutier's inhabitants are naturally respectful of their environment.

Together we can all help to preserve the island's traditions and splendid natural surroundings.
